Boots-aholic

Confession time. I have banned myself from Boots for the foreseeable future. I can't go into a store without emerging £30 worse off. I thought I had the problem under control as since starting work my route home no longer goes past a Boots store but I had a relapse last week and ended up with a few new buys:

Skincare - Avene Clearance Gel Cleanser, No 7 Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser

I've been using the Avene facewash for just over a year. My skin is oily/combination but also quite sensitive and this is the best cleanser that I've used for keeping it clear and shine free but not drying it out like a lot of teenage-aimed skincare does. At £8.25 this falls into the "Premium Skincare" aisle but one bottle lasts me a good 3-4 months using it twice a day so its definitely money well spent. My skin has been so much clearer since I started using this and it produces a satisfying foam which makes me feel like my skin is getting a good clean.

I had a No 7 £5 off voucher that was just begging to be spent so I also picked up the Hot Cloth Cleanser for £5. I don't know why I always spend the No 7 vouchers, none of their skincare or make-up has particularly impressed me in the past...I find No 7 a bit of a blah range to be honest but I can't resist a bargain! I bought this as I finally got around to trying a sample of Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish and decided that I liked the idea of a hot cloth cleanser more than I imagined I would. The No 7 cleanser is very similar to Liz Earle's. The only thing missing is the eucalpytus oil which made Liz Earle's product feel like it was cleaning my skin deep down despite it not foaming up. However, the No 7 hot cloth cleanser did a good job at taking off my make-up (I used a separate eye make-up remover first) and left my skin feeling clean and soft. I'd definitely recommend picking this up for £5 next time there's a voucher if you're yet to delve in to the world of hot cloth cleansers.

Make-up - Bourjois 1 Seconde Top Coat, Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer, Dual Pencil Sharpener, Freebie Sunglasses

Bourjois had a 3 for 2 offer which also included a pair of free sunglasses. My inner 14 year old could not resist. Who cares that I already have at least 6 pairs of sunglasses? These are free! I needed a new topcoat anyway as my Seche Vite tured into a nasty gloopy substance a few months ago and my replacement had a tiny brush which just resulted in me messing up my nail polish even more. The 1 Seconde polishes have the most idiot-proof brushes and make nail painting so much quicker and almost painless. I'd heard a lot of good things about the Healthy Mix range and needed a new concealer, hopefully I won't be disappointed. The pencil sharpener is because all my eyeliners are looking a little sorry for themselves and sharpening them with a knife seemed like a dangerous pursuit (and one which resulted in the knife being covered with makeup and the pencil looking less sharp than before my attempts).

Guilty Boots confessions? Do you always spend the No 7 vouchers?

  1. OMG girl, tell me about it. I also love Boots a bit too much. I also use to use that cleanser, but i found it was too harsh for my skin. However I will pull it one even now and then.

    1. I don't even want to think about how much money I spend in Boots each year...It's good to swap around with products - I try to have a few cleansers on the go so that I can use what my skin feels like it needs the most.

  2. Yep, I find it hard not too. It's genius marketing, it feels too much like real money not to use them. I really want to try the Avene face spritz!

    1. I want to try it too...if only they did Avene vouchers! I think No 7 is quite over-priced without the vouchers but maybe it has some devoted customers.

  3. Haha I share your Boots addiction, I cannot even walk past one without having to dart in... yesterday I told myself I only needed my Nurofen migraine pills, ended up not only buying fake tan and a face cloth but even getting suckered into buying the new No7 mascara! I just can't help myself! I'm tempted by the Avene cleanser you mentioned but I own so many cleansers, I just cannot allow myself another one! xx

    1. I almost bought the new No 7 mascara, I think I need to give their mascaras another chance as they have a few new ones now.

  4. I spend my vouchers on No7 make up brushes - you can never have too many and I'm not a huge fan of the rest of the range anyway.

  5. I'm terrible with Boots too, always manage to spend at least £30! I normally buy no 7 eye make up remover with vouchers sometimes nail or lip stuff.

  7. Nice buys :) I have been loving Avene recently and that cleanser sounds great. I really want to try that Healthy Mix concealer, I'd love to hear how you get on with it! Does that top coat come out red? xx

    1. I will review the concealer once I've tried it a few times, I really hope its good! The topcoat comes out with e reddish tint so not one for using over pale polishes but over dark red its fine!

  8. Ah ah, come to France there is no Boots that will tempt you because WE HAVE NO BOOTS STORES. :D

I'm so curious about this Bourjois concealer. I'm devoted to MAC Mineralize and Revlon Age-Defying concealers but this one intrigue me I must say. I like Bourjois but never had much of their products in my purse, in fact I can't recall having ever bought a face product of this brand (blush aside). I know we certainly don't have the same under-eye problems, not the same skin type, not the same age but will you eventually share your thoughts about it?

    1. Haha, I can still find places to spend my money in France...I love Sephora and Yves Rocher so my wallet is safe no where!
I haven't used many Bourjois products in the past but had read a lot of good reviews about the Healthy Mix range. I will definitely review it soon!

  9. You'll have to report back on the concealer, that sounds like just the kind of product that would be good for me! Boots can be no good for your purse I agree!

  10. But if you have a Boots Advantage card you are really saving yourself money! Ahem... I may have got my advantage card in the post last week and got a bit obsessed with buying things from Boots...

    1. The 3 for 2 offers are so good but so tempting! I usually only need one thing but end up getting three anyway!

  12. Fab post! Love the no. 7 vouchers! I feel ripped off if I don't get one! Dr Nick Lowe products when they're 3 for 2 is a steal, I normally try to stock up on the foaming cleanser.

    1. I don't think I'd buy anything No 7 without one! I still haven't tried and Dr Nick Lowe skincare but might be tempted on the next 3 for 2.
