Tag: Would you rather...

I was tagged by the lovely Fern to do this:

Be extremely beautiful or extremely intelligent?
Intelligent because then I could use my intelligence to make lots of money and so afford to be extremely beautiful too!

Go without brushing your teeth for a year or go without washing your hair for a year?
Hair, I think. But both would be horrible!

Be Rich or Famous?
Rich. Nice handbags and clothes, no paparazzi!

Have an amazing shoe collection or an amazing makeup collection?
Make-up...I already have a pretty good shoe collection but have always dreamt of walking into the Mac shop and buying the entire eyeshadow display. Complete with the stand that they're all lined up on...imagine that in your room!

Be able to sing or be able to dance?

Be stranded on a Desert Island or in the Desert?
Dessert Island.

Have a Computer or a TV?
Computer, I don't have a TV and get by fine with iPlayer!

Wear spots or stripes for the rest of your life?
Stripes.I love stripes.

Drink out of a Teacup or a Mug?
I love drinking out of teacups, Lady Gaga style...but in the mornings I have to have my giant cup of green tea to start the day.

Receive a bunch of Flowers or a box of chocolates?
Flowers, you can buy chocolates for yourself but I'd never buy flowers for yourself.

Have a hug or a Kiss from someone you love?
Kiss. I'm not very hugg-y. It's only recently that I can hug people and not feel really awkward about it!

Wear Converse or Stilettos?
Until I was 16, I only wore Converse so I have quite a large collection of them...these days I only wear heels but I don't like stilettos as they get stuck between pavement cracks so I guess it'd have to be Converse!

Meet Johnny Depp or Robert Pattinson?
Johnny Depp in his film roles. Robert Pattinson in real life.

Be a Fairy or a Mermaid?
Fairy. I'd hate to have a tail!

A Coffee or a Cup of Tea?
I'm really fussy about it's usually "no thanks" but I love green tea with cranberry and Starbucks' soya lattes.

Pink nails or Blue nails?
I'm wearing pink at the moment - Rimmel's 60 seconds in "Style Hunter" to be precise. I think I'm too pale for blue nails but I love how they look on other people.

Live somewhere sunny or somwhere cold?
Sunny! The sun makes me feel so much happier.

Have an amazing house or an amazing car?
House. In central London so then I wouldn't need a car.

Be kind or funny?
Hmm, funny. But not to other people's expense so I guess I'd be kind too. (Is that allowed as an answer?!)

Eat Sweets or Cake? inner health freak will always be led astray by Haribo Tangfastics.

Hold a Tarantula or a Snake?

Wear a neclace or a ring?
Ring. I rarely wear necklaces but wear the ring I got for my 16th birthday from my daddy everyday :)

Laugh or Smile?

Be hated or be a hater?

Wear Pearls or Beads?

If you had to choose, lose your sight or your hearing?

Have lots of money or lots of friends? much as that sounds shallow, I barely have enough time to see the friends I do have!

Love or be loved?

This tag has already been done by a fair few people that I follow so if you haven't done it yet then I tag you!

I only went in for some cotton wool...

Today I had my second exam, only two more to go until freedom! This one was pretty tough but I think it went ok, I worked so hard for it...have hardly done anything else besides study since the last one so on my way home I popped into Boots for a quick browse and to grab some cotton wool and came out with this little lot:

I've been in need of a new mascara for a while as my 17 Defining Mascara and L'Oreal Voluminous are starting to dry out. I like having a few on the go as get bored of using the same one everyday! I've found No 7 mascaras a bit hit and miss in the past...some of them have been quite "dry" and the last one I purchased literally ended up all over my face so I would usually avoid them BUT this new one, "Extreme Length" looked good. It has a flexible, rubbery brush which I like and I couldn't help but be drawn in my the advert featuring Keely Hawes (I'm a big Ashes to Ashes fan and think she's gorgeous!). Also, I've been wanting some new eye make-up brushes for a while and the mascara came with a free brush roll and four No 7 eye brushes! I couldn't really not get it - a mascara and brushes for £12.50!

The brushes look really good quality and there's a good variety - I most like the look of the small smudge brush and the liner brush will be really useful for applying my Sleek gel eyeliner as the brush that came with it is terrible!

The brush holder - complete with instructions for a Smoky Eye look!

A close-up of the brushes

I also got some "cold cream" for removing eye make-up - I wanted the Boots "Original Formula" one but they'd sold out so I got this slightly boring-looking one. Hopefully it'll do the job just as well.

Finally, I took advantage of the suncream buy one get one free as it was so hot over the weekend that I ended up using up all my sample sized ones that I had. Hopefully it'll warm up again soon so that I can actually use these! I've never used Hawaiian Tropic before but I've heard good things about the brand and am really fussy about suncreams...I've yet to find ones that I'm 100% happy with so these have got to be worth a try! I got the Factor 50 for sensitive areas and got a lighter, Factor 15 spray product which'll be great for everyday use in the summer. I'll let you know what I think of them!

What have you recently purchased? And what's your favourite suncream? I'd love to know - I'm a bit obsessed with the stuff but have yet to fall in love with any particular product!

Soap and Glory Goodies

I popped into Boots today desperately in need of a new shower puff after my old one met an unexpected end yesterday. One minute it was a nice pink puff, the next it was unravelling into a long, soggy net - not nice!

After being unimpressed at the Boots puffs, I decided to splash out on the Soap and Glory one - at £3.50 it's double the price of a standard puff but it's much bigger and prettier (and still only £3.50). I also picked up the Face Massage Mini Mitt after reading about it on a few blogs. I usually use a facecloth to take my make-up off but thought that this looked like a more fun alternative. The Mitt was £4.

The pink pad is soft and flexible and covered with tiny little bobbles. It's small enough to use to clean the contours of your face and has a little handle on the back to fit around your fingers. After using this last night and this morning I am absolutely in love with it - it leaves my skin feeling so clean without irritating it as some exfoliators do. I've been using it with my Clinique face soap but pretty much any cleaner would do the trick. I'm definitely going to to stick with this over my usual facecloth - it feels far more effective and is much easier to keep clean as it just needs a quick rinse after use.

Have you tried the Soap and Glory Massage Mit?

Recent FOTDs

I had my first exam today - 1/4 of the way to freedom! I *think* it went ok...fingers crossed that it actually did and that all this revision hasn't made me go crazy!

I thought I'd share a couple of recent FOTDs with you as exam-induced boredom has led to me trying out a couple of different looks - it's been a good chance to experiment as I hate taking risks with new looks when I'm going somewhere important but at the moment it's only the library and I doubt my fellow students would even notice if I came in with green lips - they're all so engrossed in their studies. It's also a good way to see how long products last - if they can take a day in a hot stuffy library they'll definitely last the night! (I had a nightmare moment once with a No 7 mascara that's made me wary of new looked great when I put it on in the morning, walked to uni, went to a class, popped to the ladies afterwards to find said mascara was no longer on my lashes and was infact all over my undereye area - why didn't anyone tell me?!)

So anyway, make-up disasters aside, here are some new looks that I like:

Face: 17 pressed powder
Clinique All-Over Colour - In Bloom

Eyes: L'Oreal Colour Appeal - Golden Sunset
Sleek Gel Eyeliner
17 Defining Mascara

Lips: Vaseline Rosy Lips

The top/dress is from Dorothy Perkins :)

Face: 17 Pressed Powder
Sleek Face Contour Kit - Light
No 7 Apricot Blush (from my palette)

Eyes: L'Oreal Colour Appeal - Golden Sunset on lid
Mac Eyeshadow Honey Lust - in crease
17 Eyeshadow - Walnut Pearl - outer corner
L'Oreal Carbon Gloss eyeliner
17 Defining Mascara

Lips: Viva Glam Gaga (just a tiny amount)

OOTD and my prize!

As I'm still waiting for summer to arrive, I'm having to be a bit creative with my outfits at the moment as I optimistically only bought summer clothes back to uni with me...Here is today's attempt at between-the-seasons dressing:

Demin jacket: H&M
Waistcoat cardi: thrifted (originally Zara)
I ♥ Paris tshirt - from a tacky tourist shop near the Eiffel Tower (I'm also wearing Eiffel Tower earrings but you probably can't see them from the picture)
Shorts: Uniqlo
Grey tights: John Lewis
Shoes: M&S

I also was very lucky to win Jen's Temporary Secretary giveaway. I got in today to find my parcel of prizes had arrived and so promptly piled on all the accessories at once:

Obviously, I would not actually wear them like this but I just wanted to try them all out and it's a good way to show you! How cute is the camera ring?!

Lastly, my make-up here is pretty simple.

Face: No 7 Instant Radiance Concealer, 17 pressed powder, Clinique All Over Colour in In Bloom
Eyes: Matte beige and brown shades from my YSL Tresor D'Afrique palette, shimmery brown from my No 7 palette, L'Oreal Superliner in Carbon Gloss, 17 Defining Mascara
Lips: Vaseline Rosy Lips
Nails: OPI Tutti Frutti Tonga

I was inspired by Holly's post this morning on how to create quick but gorgeous-looking eye-make up. I don't have any of the Mac shadows that she used but tried to create the same effect with a few of my own. I love how it's such a simple and quick look to create but still looks polished.

I'm trying to cut down on the time it takes me to get ready in the morning - I'm leaving home super early to get in as much library time as possible so a quick routine is really essential. On the other hand, I could never brave the library bare-faced and without my heels and a nice outfit - my getting ready time is really precious - it's the one time of the day where I really only think of myself and as selfish as that sounds, everyone needs a bit of "me-time", even when they do have scary exams next week. Eek! Back to the books I go...

Bendy Rollers Experiment

Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend - where has our summer gone? It was so cold outside today...I have nice summer clothes that I want to wear so hopefully things will get better soon! I'm still revising for finals so haven't had any time to shop or try out many new looks lately...I would've though that I'd be saving money but most of my money currently seems to be going on Starbucks' soya lattes to keep me awake during revision sessions!

I was having a tidy-up the other day (anything to avoid actually working!) and found a pack of bendy rollers...I don't even remember buying these, I must've had them for years! I decided to give them a quick try-out to see whether they were a good way of getting curls without using damaging tongs/GHDs...and as my destination was only my university library then it wouldn't matter if my hair turned out looking awful!

I used 3 rollers for the front of my hair, I was feeling too lazy to do the back so I just twisted the back section of my hair into a bun and cliped it in place. I did this look on almost dry hair so that it could finish drying with the rollers in. After putting them in and giving them a spritz of GHD Salt Spray I left them for 10 minutes while I did my make-up:

Taking pictures of the top of your head is really quite difficult!

Here's the finished look - I was quite pleasantly surprised with how it turned out! I'll definitely be trying this again, I like wearing my hair curly and it's nice to find a way of creating curls that won't damage my hair. My bendy rollers were from Boots - I think they're around £5 for a pack of 8.

Have you tried bendy rollers?

PS. I've just noticed that I have 100 followers! Wow! Thank you all for taking an interest in my blog and for all your lovely comments - I promise I'll be back on track with bigger and better posts once my nasty exams are out the way!

Review: Rimmel 1-2-3 Looks Mascara

This is Rimmel's latest addition to their mascara range. I first saw this in Boots a few weeks ago and thought it looked interesting, if a little odd - how can one mascara give three different looks?

Here's what Rimmel say:

Rimmel’s new breathtaking mascara is so innovative and sophisticated, it lets you dial up the look you want in an instant. Hot? Hotter? Hottest? Simply twist the dial to turn up the glam.
With its breakthrough twistable pack, 1-2-3 Looks Mascara lets you customise your lashes. Level 1 gives you up to three times more volume – a subtly seductive daytime look. If you’re looking for more volume, turn the dial to 2 for up to five times fuller lashes. And for the ultimate wow factor, switch to level 3 – that’s up to 10 times more volume. Fabulous full-on glamour has arrived and we’re not letting go.

I recently applied to join the Rimmel London VIP club - I was on their emailing list anyway and had won a mascara from them last year so thought it was worth a shot! A couple of weeks ago I received a questionnaire to fill in and on Monday I received my first product!

So, what do I think of 1-2-3 Looks Mascara?

Firstly, I'm not a big fan of the packaging, it looks quite chunky and the twistable dial doesn't look too sophisticated but, that said, some of my favourite mascaras (Maybelline Great Lash and Maybelling Colossal) have very garish packaging and so a book should not be judged by it's cover (or should that be a mascara should not be judged by it's tube?).

Before using the mascara I tried out the different settings - twisting the barrel opens up a small gap in the tube which determines how much mascara ends up on the brush. At settling 1 the brush bristles look quite defined while at setting 3 it's clear that there is a lot more product on the bristles.

The small brush means that this mascara reaches every lash, the black is nicely pigmented and it gives the thick, volumised look that I like. The finished effect is quite similar to L'Oreal Voluminous but the smaller brush means that application is much easier.

The 3 settings do give different looks although I've been mostly using setting 3 as I like big, dark, dramatic lashes for day or night!

My rating:

4/5 - an easy to apply mascara that gives a good volume, strong pigment and doesn't smudge. I'm not sure how the 1-2-3 setting will fair with prolonged use but it does live up to its claim of giving a range of looks. It's also easy to remove and lasts all day without smudging. I'm really pleased I got to try this out as I don't think it's something I would have picked up myself!

I think this retails for £7.99 although it may still be on special offer at the moment.

*This product was sent to me by Rimmel but this has not affected my opinion of it. All comments are my honest opinion as always*

My Lipstick Collection

Last week, I finally got round to showing my mum my blog (after a lengthy explanation of what a blog is!). I think she liked it but she was surprised that my blog actually wasn't about lipstick at all despite being called "LilyLipstick". So, inspired by her comments, I decided to do a post featuring my lipstick collection.

My first though on assembling my collection was that I don't really have that many lipsticks...for my first two years at university I pretty much only used a L'Oreal "Made for Me Naturals" lipstick in "Nude" and before that I didn't really wear lipstick at all. So, here is the collection I've build up in the last couple of years:

1. 17 Sheer Moisture in Balmy Beige -

I love the colour of this but it's not particularly long-lasting. I'm using it a lot at the moment though as it doesn't dry my lips out and looks natural enough to wear for days revising in the library!

2. 17 Lasting Fix in Hot Chilli -

This has incredible staying power for a budget lipstick, I love how the colour is so vibrant and yet doesn't look out of place for daytime. I wear this with just mascara on my eyes to really make the colour pop.

3. Rimmel Lasting Finish in Amethyst Shimmer -

I don't reach for this often but whenever I do I like it despite it not being very long-lasting.

4. Natural Collection Moisture Shine in Pink Mallow -

A lovely shade but again, it doesn't last! Although it's only £1.95 so I can't complain too much.

5. ELF Mineral Lipstick in Natural Nymph -

I love this lipstick, the formula and colour are gorgeous and it's amazing value for money at £3.50. One of my favourite ELF products.

6. Mac Viva Glam Gaga -

Yes, I did buy this predominantly for the hype and Gaga associations but it's a really pretty pink and it smells gorgeous! It's not a shade that would suit everyone, I tend to only wear it at night-time so it's being a bit neglected at the moment but I imagine I'll fall in love with it again for summer evenings out.

7. Mac Satin Lipstick in Cyber -

This looks scary but it's actually quite wearable. I bought it when I was in NYC for my 21st birthday from Macy's so I'm always reminded of my visit whenever I use this. It's great for evenings it lasts really well. It can also be applied very lightly and topped with clear gloss for a less dramatic finish.

8. Clinique High Impact Lipstick in Red-y to Wear -

My favourite red. This really suits my pale skin and is matte without being drying. I go through phases when I wear red lipstick constantly and this is one that I shall definitely re-purchase when it runs out!

9. Ruby and Millie Pearl Lipstick in Orange -

I bought this last time I had a £5 No 7/Ruby and Millie voucher as I'd never tried any of their make-up before. This is a more wearable shade of the 17 orange lipstick although I think I need to get a little bit of a tan before I start reaching for it more often.

10. Lancome Colour Fever in 218 -

This is a great cross between a nude and a pink. It's a "my lips but better" colour on me and I use it when I want to look natural but like I've put in some effort! It's perfect for work and I love the packaging too!

I hope you've enjoyed the glimpse into my lipstick collection! Do you have any of these? What's your favourite lipstick?
